Vitamin C powder vs tablets vs fizzy tablets

Pills, fizz or a proper drink? How the ways to take vitamin C compare, and why we put your daily D and C in a glass, not a capsule.

·Draft preview·3 min read

Vitamin C: the vitamin we all met via a carton of orange juice. Somewhere along the way it turned into tubs of powder, pots of tablets and those tubes of fizzy discs that turn your water an alarming shade of orange.

They all get the job done. The question is which one you'll actually keep doing.

How much vitamin C do you need?

The NHS says adults aged 19 to 64 need 40mg of vitamin C a day, and that a varied diet should cover it. Your body can't store it, so you need some every day. Peppers, broccoli, citrus and berries are all on the team.

Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Powders and fizzy tablets both get a glass of water into you, which is a win before the vitamins even start. Fizzy tablets can be high in sodium from the fizz, so check the label if you're watching your salt.

Where Spruce fits

Not everyone wants another pill with breakfast. So we made your daily D and C in a glass, not a capsule: a pineapple and grapefruit sip that tastes like a beach holiday, while your body gets the vitamin D it struggles to make in a British winter.

In the UK, everyone is advised to consider 10µg of vitamin D a day from October to March. One morning glass covers it, along with your vitamin C. Sunshine, sorted. Even when the sky isn't.

Vitamin C powder FAQs

The vitamin C is the same either way. A powder drink is easier to take, tastes of something, and adds a glass of water to your day, which is what helps most people stick with it.

Can you have too much vitamin C?

The NHS says more than 1,000mg a day can upset your stomach. A Spruce sachet has 160mg.

When should I take vitamin C?

Whenever suits you. Lots of people make it part of their morning, at breakfast or on the way out of the door.

Is Spruce Vitamin D + C sugar free?

Yes. It has 0g sugar and is sweetened with stevia.
